Wesley Motorsports, along with Dodge, BILSTEIN, and Toyo Tires announces 2019 race season for Dodge Challenger based on a production SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.
April 5, 2019 - Lansing, MI.
Wesley Motorsports is pleased to unveil its 2019 competition machine, a continuation of their successful 2018 program utilizing a lightly modified Dodge Challenger Widebody with a Redeye supercharged engine and handling upgrades inspired by the Dodge Viper ACR.
“The Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody displayed its amazing abilities during the 2018 season,” says Wesley. “We knew that a massive amount of supercharged horsepower with an adjustable BILSTEIN suspension would be a great package for Hill Climb and Time Attack competitions."
After coming off a successful 2018 season that saw 3 Time Attack wins and a 2nd place overall in the Gridlife Unlimited Class, the program for 2019 welcomes back BILSTEIN as a primary sponsor. “BILSTEIN is excited for the new season working with Kevin Wesley and his Team,” says Fabian Schmahl, President and CEO ThyssenKrupp BILSTEIN of America. “Thank you to everyone working on making this another successful racing year. The passion of the BILSTEIN employees, Kevin, and his Team make this a great collaboration. #ChallengerThis ”
Overall vehicle grip will be greatly enhanced with a newly developed set of aluminum-bodied BILSTEIN MDS 4-way adjustable dampers at all 4 corners and the addition of soft compound Proxes Race Slicks from Toyo Tires. With an overabundance of Redeye power on tap, the Team is looking forward to the grip of a soft compound race slick and 4-way adjustable dampers to gain additional traction.
“We are excited to partner with Wesley Motorsports, Dodge and Bilstein for the 2019 race season,” says Marc Sanzenbacher, Senior Manager of Motorsports at Toyo Tire USA Corp. “We are confident that the performance of the Toyo Proxes Race Slicks will provide the competitive advantage the team has needed to get to the top step of the podium this season.”
Kevin Wesley will again pilot the Challenger at events for 2019, the season kicking off with National Auto Sport Association (NASA) at Mid-Ohio in mid-April and heading to the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June. With 12.43 miles of twisting, climbing road, the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the world’s most challenging racecourses. In 2016, Wesley Motorsports set a TA2 qualifying record and finished 2nd in class with Kevin Wesley behind the wheel of a 2016 Dodge Viper ACR. For 2018, Wesley returned to the mountain in TA1 with the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody and qualified an impressive 5th out of over 20 TA1 entrants. An excellent showing for the maiden voyage of the Redeye in competition and clearly showed the potential for a platform that many dismissed as being non-competitive.
"We're looking forward to finishing what we started in 2018,” says Wesley. "We had a huge learning curve coming into 2018 with an unproven package and took some lumps on race day at Pikes Peak in 2018. For 2019 we’ll apply what we’ve learned and returned with a more refined package that’ll be even more competitive in the hotly contested TA1 class. Pikes Peak is a unique and demanding event. We’re hoping the Redeye power and refined BILSTEIN suspension with Toyo Tires will be the best combination to bring success for 2019."
